You know the problem. You're somewhere new, looking for somewhere to eat, and peering through every restaurant window to see if the menu has anything more exciting on offer than veggie lasagne or broccoli bake. By the time you've looked plaintively through the umpteenth one, you've almost given up and are resigning yourself to another evening of that predictable token veggie choice.
This happened to us so many times, we got to thinking: "Why doesn't someone produce a book which covers the country and gives details of where to find the most local vegetarian restaurant, as well as listing those omnivorous eateries which have a decent choice of meat-free food?"
And the idea for the Grapevine Where to Eat Vegetarian Guide was born.
It's not a book that discusses the relative merits of the balsamic vinegars on offer, or one that describes how the celebrity chefs are creating cutting-edge dishes with the help of liquid nitrogen, it's purely and simple a book which answers the question 'where can I find the restaurants, cafés and pubs which are going to give me a real choice of meat-free food?'
What's more, with maps of every English county you can see at a glance how close you are to the best local choices and, with dozens of city centre plans as well, you'll know if the place is within scampering distance.
The editor, designer, publicist and illustrator are all vegetarians - dedicated to helping you discover great vegetarian food. And, as we don't take advertising or paid-for listings from anyone, there's no pressure on us to include places that aren't up to the mark.
